Sildenafil Citrate
Eriacta is a medication for erectile dysfunction that contains Sildenafil Citrate as its active ingredient. Sildenafil Citrate is a widely recognized compound that enhances blood flow to the penis.
Sildenafil Citrate functions as a PDE5 inhibitor. The process of achieving an erection is a complex physiological event that involves interactions among psychological, neural, vascular, and endocrine elements. During sexual stimulation (arousal), nitric oxide is released from nerve cells and interacts with the enzyme Guanylate cyclase, leading to the production of Cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). cGMP acts as a second messenger that activates intracellular protein kinases, causing relaxation of smooth muscles. This relaxation in the cavernous bodies enhances blood flow, ultimately resulting in a strong and suitable erection for sexual intercourse.
Eriacta should not be taken under the following circumstances: hypersensitivity reactions to sildenafil citrate or any of the medication's components, males under 18 years of age, and females, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is also contraindicated in individuals with severe liver diseases such as cirrhosis, hepatic failure, or hepatitis; kidney disorders such as glomerulonephritis or pyelonephritis; serious cardiovascular issues like heart attacks, strokes, coronary artery disease, angina, heart failure, aortic stenosis, hypertension, or hypotension; blood disorders such as multiple myeloma, sickle cell anemia, or leukemia; vision issues like retinitis pigmentosa; anatomical deformities of the penis (e.g., angulation, Peyronie's disease, or cavernosal fibrosis); and in conjunction with nitrates or alpha-blockers.
Potential side effects include skin rash, dizziness, drowsiness, dyspepsia (indigestion), headaches, nasal congestion, hot flashes, urogenital infections, and respiratory infections in both the upper and lower airways, as well as back pain.
Additional side effects of Eriacta may include cardiovascular issues, anemia, muscle problems, insomnia, asthma, cataracts, migraines, and others.
