Manufacturer: Abbott Healthcare
Pharmaceutical name: Mebeverine
Pack: 10 pills (135 mg)

Colospa acts directly on the smooth muscle in the digestive tract to promote relaxation. It inhibits nerve signals to the intestinal muscles, aiding in the prevention of painful spasms. It is less likely to produce antispasmodic effects on the uterus and bronchial muscles. Compared to Papaverine, the effect on gastric emptying time and intestinal movement is considerably milder. There is no solid evidence indicating a significant impairment of regular peristalsis while using Colospa.

The recommended dosage is 135 mg of Colospa (1 tablet) taken three times daily before meals. After several weeks of treatment and once the beneficial effects have been achieved, the dosage may be gradually reduced. Colospa can be safely used by patients with glaucoma or prostatic hypertrophy, as it does not exhibit atropine-like effects. Store Colospa in a cool, dark place, at temperatures not exceeding 30°C, and out of reach of children.

Exercise caution when using Colospa in certain situations: for individuals with partial gut dysfunction leading to obstruction (paralytic ileus) or with inherited blood disorders that may produce a range of symptoms, including mental health issues (porphyrias).

If you become pregnant, it is important to discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of using Colospa during pregnancy, as its safety in this condition has not been established.
