Zymar is an antibiotic belonging to a class of medications known as fluoroquinolones. It combats bacterial infections in the body and is specifically utilized for treating eye infections caused by bacteria. This medication should not be used if you have an allergy to gatifloxacin.
Take Zymar exactly as directed by your physician. Avoid using it in larger quantities or for a longer duration than advised. Adhere to the instructions on your prescription label. Initially, you may need to apply the eye drops every 2 hours for the first few days, then switch to every 4 hours for the remainder of your treatment. Follow your doctor's guidance.
Zymar is typically prescribed for a week. During the first two days, administer one drop every 2 hours in the affected eye(s) while you are awake, up to 8 times daily. From days 3 to 7, use one drop 4 times a day while awake, ensuring that the doses are evenly spaced throughout the day.
Various factors can influence the dosage of medication an individual requires, including body weight, other health conditions, and concurrent medications. If your doctor has prescribed a dose that differs from those mentioned here, do not alter your usage of the medication without consulting your physician.
Seek emergency medical assistance if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, slow heart rate, weak pulse, fainting, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Contact your doctor immediately if you encounter serious side effects, including severe swelling, burning, redness, or discomfort in or around your eyes; eye pain; changes in vision; heightened sensitivity to light; signs of a new infection, like drainage, crusting, or oozing from your eyes or eyelids; or the first indication of any skin rash, regardless of how mild it appears.
