Manufacturer: Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Pharmaceutical name: Orlistat
Pack: 10 pills (120 mg)
Vyfat, which contains the active ingredient Orlistat, is classified as a lipase inhibitor medication. It functions by blocking the absorption of some fats from the food consumed in the intestines, allowing the unabsorbed fat to be eliminated from the body through stool. For effective weight loss, Vyfat should be used in conjunction with a low-fat, low-calorie diet, a suitable exercise routine, and a behavior modification program. This approach aids in not only losing weight but also in preventing weight regain, thereby reducing the risk of numerous obesity-related issues such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and certain cancers.

Vyfat is typically taken orally up to three times a day or as prescribed by a physician. It should be consumed with or within an hour of any main meal that includes fat. If a meal is skipped or is fat-free, the corresponding dose should also be omitted. Always check with a doctor for the appropriate dosage as it may vary based on the patient’s condition and their response to treatment.

Patients taking Vyfat may experience side effects such as: oily spots on underwear or clothing, oily or fatty stools, an urgent need for bowel movements, flatulence, headaches, nausea, and irregular menstrual cycles.

Contact a physician immediately if side effects persist or if you experience more severe reactions such as: issues with teeth and gums, anxiety, breathing or swallowing difficulties, jaundice, rectal pain or bleeding, or abdominal pain.

If you experience an allergic reaction, rush to your nearest emergency department. Symptoms often associated with such reactions include difficulty breathing or swallowing, tightness in the chest, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.

Vyfat may not be appropriate for everyone. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, attempting to conceive, taking any other medications (whether prescription or over-the-counter), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or pre-existing health issues.
