Triquilar is intended for the prevention of pregnancy. It contains two hormones: Levonorgestrel and Ethinylestradiol. These hormones work to prevent pregnancy in three distinct ways. Firstly, they inhibit the release of an egg (ovulation). Secondly, they alter the cervical mucus, making it more challenging for sperm to fertilize an egg. Thirdly, they modify the lining of the womb, making it difficult for a fertilized egg to implant there. For a fertilized egg (embryo/unborn baby) to grow, it must attach to the womb to obtain blood and nutrients. Without this attachment, the embryo/unborn baby cannot survive.
In addition to preventing pregnancy, Triquilar has been shown to help regulate menstrual cycles, reduce blood loss during periods, alleviate painful periods (dysmenorrhea), and lower the risk of ovarian cysts.
It is important to note that Triquilar does not provide protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, gonorrhea, or chlamydia.
Triquilar should not be used if you have ever experienced an allergic reaction to hormone medications. It is also not recommended if you are pregnant, or if you have abnormal vaginal bleeding that has not been evaluated by a healthcare professional.
People with a history of breast, ovarian, or uterine cancer should avoid using Triquilar. Additionally, those with a history of heart attacks, strokes, or blood clots should not use it.
Triquilar is also not appropriate for individuals with liver cancer or a history of jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes) related to pregnancy or the use of birth control pills.
