Trima includes the active ingredient moclobemide, which is part of a class of medications known as antidepressants. These drugs are utilized to manage depression and have an effect on the central nervous system. They are believed to influence brain chemicals called amines that play a role in mood regulation. There are numerous types of medications available for treating depression, and moclobemide is classified as a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (RIMA).

It is prescribed for various types of depression including manic-depressive psychosis, different variations of schizophrenia, alcoholism, senile and involutional depression, reactive and neurotic depression, and sociophobia.

Contraindications include hypersensitivity, acute disturbances of consciousness, pregnancy, breastfeeding (treatment should be discontinued during this period), and pediatric use (the safety and efficacy for children have not been established).

Potential side effects affecting the nervous system and sensory organs include dizziness, headaches, sleep disturbances, agitation, anxiety, irritability, confusion, paresthesia, and blurred vision.

From the gastrointestinal system, possible effects include dry mouth, nausea, heartburn, a feeling of fullness, and diarrhea or constipation. Other effects may include skin reactions such as rashes, itching, hives, and swelling.

Moclobemide enhances and prolongs the effects of sympathomimetics and opioids. The likelihood of adverse reactions from the central nervous system increases when combined with dextromethorphan. Cimetidine can slow down the metabolism of moclobemide.

The recommended dosage is 300-600 mg taken orally after meals, divided into 2-3 doses. The initial daily dose is 300 mg, which can be increased up to 600 mg for severe depression. Dose adjustments should not occur sooner than one week after starting therapy. Once the desired clinical effect is achieved, the dose should be reduced.
