Pharmaceutical name: Tibolone
Pack: 14 pills (2.5 mg)
Tibofem is a synthetic steroid hormone medication that exhibits a relatively non-selective binding profile, functioning as an agonist for all five Type I steroid hormone receptors. Its primary applications include the treatment of endometriosis and hormone replacement therapy for post-menopausal women. Tibofem demonstrates comparable or enhanced efficacy relative to older hormone replacement therapies, while sharing a similar side effect profile. It has also been researched as a potential treatment for female sexual dysfunction; however, it remains uncertain if the benefits it offers in this context outweigh the known risks associated with the drug.
Dosage - 2.5 mg per day. The tablet should be swallowed with water or another beverage, preferably at the same time each day. General improvement typically occurs within several weeks, though optimal results are achieved when treatment is maintained for at least 3 months. At the recommended dosage, tibolone can be used continuously for extended periods.
Women experiencing natural menopause should initiate treatment with Tibofem at least 12 months after their last natural menstrual period. If Tibofem is commenced sooner, irregular menstrual bleeding may occur. In cases of artificial menopause, treatment with Tibofem can begin immediately upon switching from standard hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for women with a uterus. If transitioning from an estrogen-only medication, any withdrawal bleeding should be concluded before starting Tibofem. When switching from sequential HRT, Tibofem should be started after completing the progestogen phase. If changing from continuous-combined HRT, treatment can commence at any time. If there is abnormal vaginal bleeding, this should be investigated before starting Tibofem, especially if it results from standard HRT therapy.
If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered, provided it is within 12 hours. If more than 12 hours have passed, the missed dose should be skipped, and the next dose should be taken at the regular time.
Tibofem Warnings and Precautions: It should not be used in cases of pregnancy, known or suspected hormone-dependent tumors, cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disorders (such as thrombophlebitis, thromboembolic events, or a history of these conditions), undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, or serious liver disorders.
