Sporanox (Itraconazole) is an antifungal medication belonging to the azole class. It works by disrupting the synthesis of the fungal cell membrane, effectively killing susceptible fungi. Sporanox is prescribed to treat fungal infections that can affect various parts of the body, such as the lungs, mouth or throat, toenails, and fingernails. Additionally, Sporanox may be utilized for other indications not mentioned in this medication guide.

Avoid taking Sporanox if you have a known allergy to Itraconazole or related drugs like Fluconazole or Ketoconazole, have a history of congestive heart failure, or are pregnant or may become pregnant while undergoing treatment. Numerous medications can lead to severe or life-threatening health issues when taken concurrently with Sporanox. This includes cisapride, dihydroergotamine, dofetilide, ergonovine, ergotamine, lovastatin, methylergonovine, midazolam, nisoldipine, pimozide, quinidine, simvastatin, and triazolam.

Before starting Sporanox, inform your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, stroke, irregular heart rhythms, kidney or liver issues, respiratory conditions, cystic fibrosis, or a family or personal history of "Long QT syndrome."

It is important to complete the full course of Sporanox as prescribed. You may notice an improvement in your symptoms before the infection is entirely resolved. Note that Sporanox is not effective against viral infections like the common cold or flu.

To ensure that you can safely use Sporanox, please inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: heart disease, irregular heart rhythms, circulation issues, or a past stroke; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or other respiratory problems; kidney disease; liver disease; cystic fibrosis; or a personal or family history of "Long QT syndrome."
