Ritomune is an antiviral medication used to manage human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It's important to note that Ritomune is not a cure for HIV; it solely inhibits the virus's reproduction within the body. While undergoing treatment with this medication, it is essential to monitor liver function and blood glucose levels.
The active component in Ritomune is Ritonavir, with each tablet containing 100 mg of this ingredient.
Ritomune lowers the levels of HIV in the body and promotes an increase in the number of CD4 (T) cells in the bloodstream. Patients in clinical trials who used this medication experienced notable decreases in both mortality and diseases associated with AIDS; however, these outcomes may not be observed in every individual.
For adult patients, the recommended dosage of Ritomune is 600 mg taken twice daily with meals. For pediatric patients over one month old, the suggested twice-daily dosage is determined by body surface area and should not exceed 600 mg taken twice daily with meals.
Side effects from Ritomune, whether used alone or in combination with other antiretroviral medications, included gastrointestinal issues (such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain), neurological symptoms (including paresthesia and oral paresthesia), skin rashes, and fatigue/asthenia.
