Progynova (Estradiol) is a synthetic version of the female hormone estrogen, which is typically produced in the ovaries. It is used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for young women who have insufficient natural estrogen production. Additionally, it may be prescribed to women experiencing menopause or post-menopause to alleviate symptoms such as vaginal dryness, itching and burning, hot flashes, and osteoporosis following menstruation.
Progynova should be taken as one tablet daily or according to a physician's instructions. It can be consumed with or without food, but should be taken with a glass of water. For appropriate dosage, initiation date, treatment schedule, and duration of therapy, consult a doctor, as these factors depend on the individual’s condition and response to the treatment. The tablets must be swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed, or divided before taking.
Some potential side effects of Progynova may include breakthrough bleeding or spotting, breast discomfort, hair thinning, headaches, bloating, nausea, and vomiting. If side effects continue or if you experience more severe reactions such as blood clots, breathing or swallowing difficulties, jaundice, breast lumps, unusual vaginal bleeding (particularly if you are post-menopausal), mood swings, reduced libido, or unexplained weight fluctuations, contact a doctor immediately.
If you experience an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical help right away. Common symptoms of an allergic reaction can include difficulty in breathing or swallowing, tightness in the chest, swelling, skin rashes, or hives.
Progynova may not be appropriate for every patient. Always discuss with your healthcare provider before using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, attempting to conceive, taking any other medications (prescription or over-the-counter), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other medical conditions.
The appropriate dosage and prescription typically vary based on the individual and the specific condition being treated. Do not change your dosage without the consent of your healthcare provider. This medication should only be used as prescribed and directed.
