Phenergan is utilized to avert and manage nausea and vomiting during and following surgical procedures. It can also be used to induce mild sleep, treat motion sickness, or alleviate postoperative pain in conjunction with other medications. Additionally, it may be prescribed for other medical issues based on your physician's evaluation. Phenergan belongs to the class of phenothiazine antihistamines. Its mechanism involves blocking histamine, which lessens allergy symptoms and mitigates nausea and vomiting.

Phenergan is an antihistamine that alleviates nasal congestion and inflammation, as well as redness and irritation in the eyes resulting from hay fever and various allergies. It's also effective for treating itching, swelling, and redness due to hives and other skin rashes; allergic responses to blood transfusions; and, in conjunction with other drugs, anaphylactic shock (a severe allergic reaction).

In addition, Phenergan is prescribed as a sedative and sleep aid for both adults and children. It is used to prevent and control nausea and vomiting pre and post-surgery, and to manage motion sickness. It is also administered with other medications to relieve pain following surgical procedures.

Antihistamines operate by diminishing the impacts of histamine, a substance the body generates in reaction to specific irritants. Histamine constricts airways in the lungs and contributes to inflammation. Antihistamines help reduce itching and swelling and eliminate mucus from the nose, eyes, and throat.

You should take Phenergan orally. Adhere to the instructions on the prescription label and take your doses at consistent intervals. Do not exceed the directed dosage frequency.

If you are using Phenergan to prevent motion sickness, consume the first dose 30 to 60 minutes prior to your departure.

Special precautions for pediatric use: Phenergan is not recommended for children younger than 2 years; it should be given to children only if prescribed by a doctor.

In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it's nearly time for your subsequent dose, only take that dose. Avoid taking double doses.

Potential side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, headaches, and nasal congestion.
