Pantosec is utilized to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison syndrome by inhibiting acid production in the stomach. As a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), Pantosec may be prescribed alongside antibiotics like amoxicillin or clarithromycin for certain types of ulcers. Your doctor may also recommend it for other health conditions.
Swallow Pantosec whole—do not break, crush, or chew the pill. If your doctor has prescribed antacids, you may take Pantosec with them as well.
Complete the entire course of Pantosec, even if you feel better after a few days. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it's nearly time for your next dose; in that case, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule, avoiding taking two doses at once.
If your symptoms continue to persist or worsen, consult with your doctor. Keep up with your doctor’s appointments and lab tests while on Pantosec, as this medication might affect your lab results (e.g., may cause a false positive urine screen for THC). It is important to inform laboratory staff and your healthcare providers about your use of Pantosec.
Before starting any new medication, whether prescription or over-the-counter, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If you are a woman considering pregnancy, discuss the potential risks and benefits of using Pantosec during pregnancy with your doctor. Since it is uncertain whether Pantosec is present in breast milk, it's recommended to speak with your doctor or pharmacist about any potential risks to your baby while breastfeeding.
Some side effects may diminish during treatment, including headache, dizziness, diarrhea, or nausea. However, consult your doctor if these persist or become bothersome. Additionally, seek immediate medical attention if you experience swelling of the hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing; hoarseness; or rash. If you encounter other side effects not mentioned here, reach out to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
