Nolvadex-D is indicated for managing breast cancer that has metastasized (metastatic breast cancer), for treating specific breast cancer cases following surgery and radiation, and for lowering the risk of breast cancer in individuals at high risk. This medication can inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer by disrupting the effects of estrogen in breast tissues. It should only be used for the conditions mentioned in this section if prescribed by a healthcare provider. Additionally, Nolvadex-D may be utilized to induce ovulation in certain women attempting to conceive.
Nolvadex-D functions as a non-steroidal anti-estrogen and competitively blocks estrogen receptors in targeted organs and tumors. Although the exact mechanism of action has not been fully elucidated, it is known that Nolvadex-D binds with the receptor and cofactor, subsequently transferring to the cell nucleus, thereby inhibiting the hypertrophy of estrogen-regulated cells. The medication’s effects may persist for several weeks after a single administration.
Nolvadex-D can induce ovulation in women and stimulate the production of gonadotropic hormones from the pituitary gland. In men with oligospermia, it can elevate levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, testosterone, and estrogen in the serum. This drug is employed for treating breast cancer in both women and men (particularly following castration), and when the disease has spread to other body parts, as well as for kidney cancer, melanomas, soft tissue sarcomas with estrogen receptors, and ovarian cancer.
Take Nolvadex-D precisely as directed by your physician, as the dosage is contingent upon your specific condition. Prolonged treatment (approximately 2 years) is generally recommended. It should be taken with food and a large glass of water, either as a single dose or split into two doses (taken in the morning and evening), and it should not be chewed or crushed.
Nolvadex-D may raise the risk of developing endometrial cancer. Patients being treated with Nolvadex-D should be vigilant for symptoms such as unusual vaginal bleeding, menstrual cycle changes, alterations in vaginal discharge, or pelvic pain or pressure.
