Femistra reduces estrogen levels in postmenopausal women to hinder the progression of certain cancer tumors. It functions by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, thereby decreasing estrogen production.
Follow your doctor's instructions regarding treatment and dosing schedule closely. Do not take more Femistra than prescribed. Take it once daily. If you miss a dose, take Femistra as soon as you remember. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Never take a double dose of Femistra. There is no available information on Femistra overdose. If you think you have taken too much of this medication, contact your doctor immediately.
Notify your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have severe liver disease, a history of stroke or blood clots, heart disease, circulation issues, or if you have not completed menopause. If you have any of these conditions, your dosage may need to be adjusted. Treatment with Femistra may last up to five years. Femistra may affect your ability to concentrate, think, or react; use caution when driving or operating machinery.
Common side effects include signs of an allergic reaction (such as hives, skin rash, facial swelling, and difficulty breathing), as well as sudden headaches, confusion, vision or speech difficulties, balance issues, sudden numbness or weakness (particularly on one side of the body), bone fractures, swollen glands, and swelling in the hands or feet. Less common but not severe side effects may consist of hot flashes, sore throat, fatigue, back pain, bone pain, and nausea.
Inform your doctor if you are taking Tamoxifen or estrogen. Also, let your doctor know about all prescribed and over-the-counter medications, herbal products, vitamins, and dietary supplements you are using.
