Pack: 21 pills (3 mg / 0.03 mg)
Crisanta comprises two hormones: Ethinylestradiol, an estrogen, and a progestin. This medication is utilized to avert pregnancy. It primarily functions by inhibiting ovulation, meaning it prevents the release of an egg during your menstrual cycle. Additionally, it thickens vaginal fluid to hinder sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and modifies the uterine lining to obstruct the attachment of a fertilized egg. If an egg does not attach to the uterus, it exits the body. In addition to preventing pregnancy, birth control pills can regularize your menstrual cycle, reduce menstrual blood loss and alleviate painful periods, as well as lower the likelihood of ovarian cysts.
Crisanta does not offer protection against sexually transmitted infections (such as HIV, gonorrhea, or chlamydia) for you or your partner.
Birth control pills may also be prescribed for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) or moderate acne if you opt to use them for pregnancy prevention.
Consume Crisanta orally as prescribed by your physician, regardless of food intake, typically once daily. Choose a time that is easy for you to remember and take your pill consistently at the same time each day, spaced 24 hours apart. Taking Crisanta after supper or before bedtime may help reduce stomach discomfort and nausea. Follow the instructions included in the package to locate the first tablet, starting with the first active tablet and taking them in the designated order. Do not skip doses, as missing pills, beginning a new pack late, or taking your pill at an irregular time can increase the chances of pregnancy.
Your pack contains 21 pills with active hormones and may include 7 reminder pills (without hormones) at the end. Take one active pill daily for 21 consecutive days. If your product has 28 pills, follow up with one reminder pill daily for 7 days after the last active pill, unless instructed otherwise by your doctor. If you have a 21-tablet product, refrain from taking any tablets for 7 days unless directed by your doctor. You should typically get your period within 3 days after the last active tablet in the cycle. After you’ve taken the last reminder pill or gone 7 days without an active tablet, start a new pack the following day, regardless of whether your period has occurred. If your period does not start, consult your physician.
If this is your first time using Crisanta and you are not transitioning from another hormonal birth control method (like the patch or different birth control pills), take the first tablet on the first Sunday after the start of your menstrual period or on the first day of your period. If your period begins on a Sunday, commence taking Crisanta on that day. For the initial cycle, use an additional non-hormonal birth control method (such as condoms or spermicide) for the first 7 days to prevent pregnancy until the medication takes effect. If you start on the first day of your period, there's no need for backup birth control during the first week.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance on switching from other hormonal birth control methods (such as the patch or other pills) to Crisanta.
Potential side effects of Crisanta include nausea, vomiting, headaches, bloating, breast tenderness, swelling in the ankles/feet (fluid retention), or changes in weight. You may experience vaginal bleeding between periods (spotting) or missed/irregular periods, particularly during the initial months of use. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor immediately. If you miss two consecutive periods (or one period if the pill has not been taken properly), reach out to your doctor for a pregnancy test. Crisanta might elevate your blood pressure; check it regularly and notify your doctor if readings are high.
Contact your physician immediately if you encounter any of these serious side effects: unexpected changes in vaginal bleeding (like ongoing spotting, sudden heavy bleeding, or missed periods), symptoms indicating high potassium levels in the blood (such as muscle weakness, slow or irregular heartbeat).
Seek urgent medical attention if you experience any of these rare but severe side effects: breast lumps, intense stomach/abdominal pain, dark urine, yellowing of the eyes/skin, or significant mental/mood changes (like new or worsening depression or suicidal thoughts).
Crisanta should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or suspect you might be pregnant, contact your doctor right away. If you have recently given birth or experienced a pregnancy loss or abortion after the first trimester, discuss with your doctor about reliable birth control options and when it’s safe to resume using birth control containing estrogen, such as Crisanta.
