Manufacturer: Allergan
Pharmaceutical name: Botulinum Toxin Type A
Pack: 1 bottle (1ml (100iu))
Botox is derived from the bacteria responsible for botulism. The botulinum toxin inhibits nerve function in the muscles, leading to a short-term decrease in muscle activity. Botulinum Toxin Type A is utilized for treating cervical dystonia (intense spasms in the neck) and severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Additionally, Botox is employed to address specific eye muscle disorders caused by nerve issues. This includes conditions such as uncontrollable blinking, eyelid spasms, and misalignment of the eyes. Botox is also effective in temporarily reducing facial wrinkles. Botulinum toxin type A may have other applications not mentioned in this medication guide.
Botox is a toxin generated by Clostridium botulinum bacteria. It functions by lowering nerve signals to the muscles, promoting relaxation. The toxin enters nerve cells and blocks the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that conveys signals between nerves. The effects of this medication are temporary, allowing the muscle to eventually regain its previous function.
For excessive sweating, Botox operates in a similar manner, preventing the release of acetylcholine from nerve cells that activate the sweat glands.
