Manufacturer: Geno Pharmaceuticals
Pharmaceutical name: Probenecid
Pack: 30 pills (500 mg)
Bencid assists in eliminating uric acid from the body through urine, thereby reducing uric acid levels. It is prescribed for gout and gouty arthritis. Additionally, Bencid is sometimes administered alongside penicillin antibiotics to enhance their efficacy.
You should avoid using Bencid if you have an allergy to Probenecid, or if you are experiencing: uric acid kidney stones; an ongoing gout attack; or a blood cell disorder such as anemia or a reduction in white blood cells.
Bencid may pose risks to an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant during your treatment. It is unclear whether Bencid can pass into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant.
To prevent gout, take Bencid orally, generally twice daily with food or antacids to minimize stomach discomfort, or follow your doctor's instructions. It is recommended to consume a full glass of water with each dose and at least an additional 8 glasses (8 ounces each) daily while using this medication to help prevent kidney stones. If you have restrictions on fluid intake, consult your doctor for further guidance.
Before starting Bencid, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any known allergies to it; also mention any other allergies. This medication may include inactive components that can lead to allergic reactions or other issues. Discuss with your pharmacist for more information.
The most common side effects may include: nausea, appetite loss, dizziness, vomiting, headaches, sore gums, or increased urination as your body acclimates to the medication. If any of these side effects continue or worsen, promptly inform your doctor or pharmacist.
A very serious allergic reaction to Bencid is uncommon. However, seek immediate medical help if you notice signs of a severe allergic reaction such as: rash, itching/swelling (particularly of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
